School History

The first "Public school" of Hisar is the Model School, now called the Thakur Dass Bhargava Senior Secondary Model School. The school situated on the Rajgarh Road adjoining the premises of Haryana Agricultural University and Govt. College. As the school is nearly half a century old, it has passed through certain development which can briefly be explained in the following words:-

• It is the brain child of Pt. Thakur Dass Bhargava (1886-1962) who was a renowned Parliamentarian of the country and a great architect of the modern city Hisar.
• The main cause of the establishing this school was to impart English medium education to those who could not afford to go to far off places.
• In 1957-58, Pt. Thakur Dass Bhargava started this venture from a small building, known as Ladies Club- a part of Eliot Club. To begin with it was a primary school. Its founder Headmistress was Miss Nirmal Dutta.
• Subsequently, Pt. Thakur Dass Bhargava managed to have 15 acres land from the Govt. of Punjab on Rajgarh Road, and started construction for the proposed school. The construction was completed by 1963, but the founder of the school was no more as he died on 12 December 1962.
• However, on 26 January 1963, the newly constructed building was inaugurated by Smt. Roop Rani, the wife of Late Pt. Thakur Dass Bhargava. Speaking on occasion, the Deputy Commissioner of Hisar- Sardar Iqbal Singh- urged the Management stating, "The School should be named after Pt. Thakur Dass Bhargava who had a deep love for his nation and people".

It is true that the Model School was the first as a Primary School, then as Middle school and High School, but now it is a Senior Secondary School. If it was founded by a great nationalist like Pt. Thakur Dass Bhargava, it was also nursed by noble soul like Thakur Kashonath, Bakshi Ram Krishan and Babu M.P. Jain. It is still in the safe hands of public-spirited personalities of Hisar like Smt. Krishana Bhargava, Sh. P.K. Sandhir, Sh. G.R. Godara and Sh. Jagdeep Bhargava.

Since its incepection, the school has been making tremendous progress by imparting education upto Sr. Sec. Level in all faculties Eminted educationists like Prof. D.N. Sharma and Miss Janki Chopra had adorned the chair of the Principal of this prestigious institution. Its alumini have also made their mark in various spheres of national life.

The school as good student teacher ratio. It has today adequate building, airy classrooms, spacious play-grounds, well-equipped labs, etc. It provides quality education, with a reasonable fee structure, without unnecessary frills. So far the school has translated the dream of its founder- Pt. Thakur Dass Bhargava-into reality to a great extent, and is expected to continue to serve the people of Hisar even in a better way !
